Short Scares: Episode 3

I’ve been at it again. More short horror film critiques coming your way. To start it off we have: I Heard It Too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxRIWBoluzs The description on the video describes it as, A girl heard her mom yell her name from downstairs, so she got up and started to head down. As she got to the stairs, her mom pulled her into her room and said "I heard that, too." I liked it, that is, until the end. The little girl was adorable, but the mom seriously needs to learn how to whisper. Like, come on lady, the only way she would survive this short film is if the killer was deaf. Next up on my list: The Smiling Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u6Tt3PqIfQ This one is based on a short story. I’ve listened to the podcast of it on Simply Scary (an awesome podcast by the way 10/10 would recommend) multiple times and each time I find something I hadn’t noticed before. I was really excited when I saw this title, but as I watched it I became more and ...

My Take on IT: The Main Characters (spoilers ahead)

Image
It's really late and the hype is over, but I watched IT today. Over all, it was made nicely. Following the book and original TV miniseries, it sucked. I am a fan of the original, and watching the new one and seeing how different it is made me mad.   Not only did they cut out some signature scenes, like when Georgie's picture bled, the wolf man, the showers, and Ben's dad; t hey lacked any emotional connection to one another. T he group in the miniseries had chemistry and there was a sense of togetherness  throughout the who thing. T he new movie, and these new kids, they didn't have that. Yes,  I think it's cool how they went deeper into the kids' lives , but their stories should at least be accurate and go with the book. (keep in mind this is all based on my memory and opinions. Please don't take offense if you like the movie.) Breaking down the characters: Beverly She was some kind of badass which is opposite from the original. Her dad was played we...

Short Scares: Episode 2

I've been watching more short horror films, and all of them so far (its been like 7) are all painstakingly boring, predictable, and just stupid. I'm not going to put links to these because they're not worth it, but I am going to nit-pick a one that was especially bad. SPOILERS AHEAD Alexia Okay, so quick overview. First of all, its in Spanish, and that's not a flaw in the film it just makes it that much hard to understand what the characters are typing because that's the way the film starts. This guy, and a friend are messaging on FaceBook and he is stalking his ex-girlfriend's page because its her birthday and she killed herself. So, the girl says she's coming over and gets offline. What does he do? Does the title Unfriended mean anything to you? He unfriend's her; the stupidest thing he could've done (I'm pretty sure there's even another knew movie coming out that's the same thing). Anyway, he unfriends her and weird things start hap...

Short Scares

So, I've been entertaining myself with short films lately and have come across several disturbing but interesting horror shorts made by Crypt TV. I'll put the links to the ones I've watched at the end of this post. So far I've watched 6, and they are... interesting. They're good; I enjoy watching them, but with some of them I don't understand why they weren't made into full length feature films. With others, well... He Took his Skin off for Me (which was not made by Crypt TV) which is about a guy and his girlfriend, and the girlfriend asks him to literally took his skin off like its willingly removable, puts it on a hanger and keeps it in the closet. Weird, right? The next video was actually a set of videos, Look-See Parts 1, 2, and 3 . They're so good; the antagonist is super creepy, I think I get the plot of it, but I'm not entirely sure. I think the antagonist is a representation of each person's past and something they need to let go of, b...

YouTube as Social Media?

Image
I don't plan on making this post long because I don't really have all too much to say about YouTube. First of all, I never really considered YouTube as a form of social media. It was always just, the website with the funny animal videos to me, but thinking more about it, I guess that is social media and a lot of people do use YouTube as such. It is connected to other forms of social media which made me think of it as more of a tool of those platforms instead of a social media platform of its own. The Social Media Marketing Workbook we are reading in class says that "YouTube can provide a two-for-one punch to your social media marketing," which is absolutely true. I never thought about Youtube being a marketing tool (I guess I never really thought of YouTube being anything other than a bunch of random videos) but there are a lot of different company channels and organization videos on it. Like Buzzfeed and GoPro and Nintendo all use YouTube as a form of direct communic...

The Whole Football Thing

Image
Maybe I don't know all the facts (but when do I ever?), maybe I'm completely out of line; I don't know, but I'm going to talk about the NFL and kneeling for the National Anthem. Some things I've heard include: " Unfortunately I must support the right, but not the wisdom of NFL players to protest in the manner they have chosen." Unfortunately? It is their right. At first it started out as a protest against social injustice, but now it has just turned into an ugly war or people's opinions and beliefs. This all could have blown over, but someone had to make a big deal about a select few people choosing to take part in this. It has gotten way out of hand and big companies, like Anheuser Busch, are threatening to take away the funding of different football teams that have chosen to kneel. This is a stupid problem that can easily be fixed if people would just SHUT UP and GET OVER IT!!!  " this is disrepectful to veteran and the military" How? T...

ESA

Image
Emotional Support Animals (ESA) have become very popular in the past few years. Just to clarify, an ESA's is a designated animal that  a medical professional has determined provides benefit for an individual with a  disability. They can be used by people that suffer from a physical, psychiatric, or intellectual disability.  Americans that suffer from emotional or mental disability can qualify for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA). To get the qualification, the individual involved must have an emotional or mental disability that is certified by a mental health professional such as a psychiatrist, or any other mental health expert. Notice how it says you must have a disability that is certified and recognized by a MENTAL health professional. So, you can't just go to your family doctor and say "I'm sad" and have him write a letter (which is part of the process of getting an ESA) and magically your pet is allowed in every building, on every airplane, and is unable t...

I don't plan on this post being long at all because I just want to talk about how, in the book The Art of Social Media, Guy Kawasaki says to respond to comments on your post. I'm not good at that. I don't know what the heck to say when someone comments something so I just don't, and unless they're asking me a question I didn't ever think there was a need to respond. He talks about YouTube in the book, so I'm not sure if he's like talking about responding to anyone on anything or if there's like a certain type of comment you should respond to on certain platforms of social media. I have no idea, and I am terrible at it. I tend to just think to myself (what a wonderful world... jk) , "okay thanks for the opinion," and move on with my life. I don't ever actually put it on the posts though because what am I supposed to say? I don't like being repetitive, so if I respond to every single comment with a super generic thank you I will cut...
